Local MPs Ruth Cadbury and Seema Malhotra issued the following statement following the murder of Jo.

"Jo Cox's death is a deep and unbearable loss for her family, her constituency and all who knew her. She was an amazing friend and colleague and our hearts goes out to her husband Brendan and her beautiful young children. We will be passing on all the kind messages we have received for them from local residents."

"She was both respected and loved across Westminster. She stood for a world that was better and safer, and a world in which unity triumphs over division. She did so much good, and was a wonderful role model for women in politics. She was brave, principled and deeply compassionate. Her life and her achievements send a strong message - that we need to bring more kindness back into our national story and behaviour - and stand up to the hate that killed her."

"Jo died doing what we MPs all do week in week out, being visible in the community and serving constituents at the surgery. We must not let this tragic act diminish our ability to do our jobs, for to do so would diminish our democracy."

"It is vital for us to continue our surgeries and do so safely. We are working with the police and the House authorities to continue to take every safety precaution we can - and we are grateful to the police for the support they give to us and our staff. We came into politics to serve our constituents. We have a job to do and it's so important for us to be accessible as possible to constituents. We cherish that principle and hope we can protect that freedom."
